You know what I figured out about myself today? I am a royal pain in the butt.
And I've gotten worse since coming to college and then co-oping. :-D Excellent.
Actually, sometimes it really is a good thing - I realized today that I don't really take no for an answer. Here is a sample conversation:
Receptionist: We don't do that.
Me: Ok, see, here's the deal. I received one at the end of last semester, but one of my professors did not turn in our grades until after the deadline, so it didn't get printed and I have a grade listed as a "Z".
Receptionist: Sorry, we don't print more than one.
Me: Ok. Is there another type of grade list you can print?
Receptionist: I don't know. You need to talk to Transcript Woman [I'm leaving her real name out].
Me: Where is Transcript Woman?
Receptionist: On the phone. You will need to leave your name and SSN on this paper.
Me: Um, ok. Do you know how long Transcript Woman will be?
Receptionist: No.
Me: Ok. I can stay for 10 minutes.
Receptionist: Ok, I'll come and get you.
Five minutes later
Transcript Woman: So what is this all about?
Me: [explain my story again]
Transcript Woman: You should have a copy of this grade report at home.
Me: Well, it has a "Z" on it.
Transcript Woman: [disgruntled] We don't normally print another copy.
Me: Then what should I send these people?
[silence]
Transcript Woman: [typing] I need to see some ID.
Minutes later, Transcript Woman hands me my grade summary, fresh off the printer. I thank her and walk out.
Now, I'm not suggesting that everyone should go storm the Registrar's office... although I have to admit that I have never had a pleasant encounter with them in all of my four years here. But if there is anything I have learned, it's that you just have to be persistent about the things you want. I don't think I would have had the guts to stick around and be a pain when I was a freshman - I would have stalked back home and gotten mad.
So much has changed in my life over these past few years... but so much of it has been good for me. :-)
