This post should suit those of you with short attention spans. I've decided to put down a collection of my thoughts regarding a variety of issues - thus, random snippets. Really, it's so I can look back on this years from now and see what concerned me on February 17, 2008. :-) So hang on tight, because here we go:
Snippet 1: Sampson, get off the phone
Those of you who know me well know that I am a huge IU basketball fan. I've been watching these games on TV since I was two. So obviously I was crushed to learn that the NCAA had filed all of these allegations against Kelvin Sampson. (In case you haven't been watching the news, you can read what I'm talking about here.) Here's my honest-to-goodness opinion: I have lost a whole ton of respect for Sampson. If these allegations really are true, I think it's a doggone shame for IU and for Sampson. Sampson's a good coach (his record and performance at Oklahoma is proof), and IU has a basketball program full of tradition and pride. Now a school is in jeopardy of losing its coach and its clean-cut reputation. I have a gut feeling that Sampson is going to get canned, regardless of guilt. My solution: BRING BACK BOBBY!!!! Ok, I know it's not really going to happen. But here's the deal: we need an Indiana boy in there. Either someone who played for Bobby, or someone who coached with him. Dan Dakich comes to mind... or even Steve Alford, if they can get him to come home!!
What I find absolutely laughable is that the press now LOVES Bobby. The same people who used to trash him because of the Neal Reid incident (which, by the way, was absolute crap... Reid was just a ball-hog with an "it's-all-about-me" attitude) are the same people who are saying, "well, at least Bobby had a clean program - never cheated, and his kids graduated." DUH!! I've been saying that for years, people!!
The other thing that bugs me is that the current IU athletic director, Greenspan, is basically trying to wipe his hands clean of the whole thing. He now has a few days to come up with a recommendation regarding Sampson's fate as coach, but he has tried to shirk responsibility by saying that he alone was not responsible for hiring Sampson. Um... YES YOU WERE!! As athletic director, you are responsible, especially since our entire athletic department revolves around the status of our basketball team. My opinion: if Sampson goes, so does Greenspan.
The real losers here are the kids. I feel for them - they're just trying to play a game here, and they do not deserve to be caught up in all of the politics. They are in the toughest situation of all, and I am proud of the fact that they beat MSU soundly last night. Here's a tribute from me (taken when I went to the IU vs. UConn game):
Snippet 2: Vote for me!
What am I gonna do about this year's election?? The following joke from one of my nurses pretty much sums it up:
Chelsea Clinton was interviewing a couple of U.S. soldiers. She asked these brave soldiers if they were afraid of anything. One of them replied, "Yes - as a matter of fact, I am afraid of three things: Osama, Obama, and yo' mama."
Yeah. I really don't know, man. I can't stand Hillary - she was the president for 8 years, and now she wants more? Crazy power-hungry woman. And way to use Bill... I guess he comes in handy for other things outside of sleeping around with interns. What a sleaze.
And Obama? Full of rhetoric. (Rhetoric is the nice word. I actually think he's full of something else.) He claims that he's the change candidate. Um, right... he's a U.S. senator, and he's done SOOO much in Congress for us already, right? Ugh. And people keep saying how he's a great orator - to be honest, I don't know what people see!! All I heard during one of his debates with Hillary was a whole bunch of "uh's" and "um's" and sentences that didn't make sense. (To Hillary's credit, she's a much better debater.) And people complain about Bush's speaking skills?! I don't really think Obama's a whole lot better.
And I'm supposed to vote for McCain because I'm a Republican, right? I gotta echo Hawkeyegirl9's sentiments here - McCain's a bit liberal for me. I appreciate the fact that he has the best work ethic out of the three (he has participated in WAAAAY more Senate votes than Hillary or Obama in the same timeframe), and I think he has a shot at reaching across the aisle to try and get stuff done, but I wonder if he's going to completely sell out on us in the long run.
In 2004, I was working as a co-op at the FDA at the time of the presidential election. My officemate came in from voting that morning and announced that she had voted for ME for president. Yep - she wrote me in! So I got one vote in the state of Maryland!! So if you really want to support my budding career in politics, or if you really get stumped on who to vote for this year, write me in... and let me know so that I can add on to my write-in tallies from multiple states. :-D And then tune in to CNN and watch Wolf Blitzer's puzzled expression as he announces, "this just in... we have yet one more state that has collected an overwhelming number of write-in votes for someone named Sistah T." Hahaha...
Snippet 3: Roses are red, violets are blue... but I really like roses
I've made a wedding decision. I'm definitely having roses in my floral arrangements. I just bought a dozen beautiful red roses (post-Valentine's Day sales, mind you... don't you worry, I'm thrifty) from my local Fresh Market a couple days ago and they smell ABSOLUTELY wonderful!! Even the leaves on the rose stems have the same wonderful scent! Now all I have to do is find a cake and a groom. ;-)
