Ahhh, spring... the start of wedding season! Bring out the dress, flowers and cake!! And the Kleenex - at least I'll need it (for the allergies, emotions, or both).
The past couple of years have been jammed with weddings for me. This year is no different (although they are all in the latter half of the year, for some reason). I've actually learned a lot about weddings from my married friends in Hoosierland as well. So with that in mind, I bring you...
Sistah T's Wedding Plans
No, I am not getting hitched anytime soon... at least, as far as I am aware. But this is basically what you can expect when that day finally arrives, so buckle your seatbelts!! It's going to be a PARTY!! So, the correct title is:
Sistah T's Wedding and THE PARTY OF THE YEAR Plans
Size (number of guests)
My wedding will be huge. Not by choice. BY DEFAULT. You realize that I will need to invite everyone whose weddings I have attended, and by the time my turn rolls around, that's going to be A LOT. (Not to mention all the weddings my future husband will probably have attended as well.) Plus my family. And my family friends (who already invited themselves several years ago). And my college friends. And my work friends. Yikes. We haven't even included his family and friends!! Let's hope we at least have some friends in common... or at least, let's hope he's antisocial. :-D Nooooo! I'm just kidding. However, I already expect to be horrible at turning people down or making "A" and "B" invite lists. Eeek.
Location
You know, I always wanted to get married in Midland... but I don't know anymore. I guess I'll have to wait and see on this one. Wherever it is, the ceremony and reception will have to be indoors. I don't like worrying about things I can't control (i.e., weather). Oh! Actually, maybe I should get married on a golf course. Hmmm. Regardless, I am playing a round of golf with the husband-to-be and my family the morning of the ceremony - I demand it!!
Food
There will be plenty of food - I'm probably going to have to do a buffet due to the projected number of people. And you realize my family is really good at eating. Nothing too fancy, but good and plentiful.
Cake
I don't know how many layers of cake I can get, but I love dark chocolate cake. And red velvet cake. Mmmm. If my budget allows, I'll get both.
Entertainment
I am torn on this one: karaoke or a live salsa band?? (My mom's like, DO BOTH!!!! Yeah Mom, let's see how much $ I can shell out for this...) And of course I will make a slideshow. I love making slideshows for others, and I love seeing the whole thing put together with music, but I do admit I have saved two songs for my own wedding slideshow. (Not telling you what they are because I don't want any leeches stealing my ideas!!)
Dress
NOT A STRAPLESS. We're not even going to discuss what disasters could happen with me wearing a strapless gown. I know it works fine for most other women, but... this is Sistah T we're talking about here. The same Sistah T who can't walk in stilettos. You get the picture.
So there you have it. I have already been warned by several people that I am not allowed to elope. (I'm not sure why they think I would even consider eloping. Do they think I'm trying to run away from them? Trust me, eloping is not an option for me!!) I'm not into the whole extravagant themed wedding thing, because I think that's a waste; however, I do want to hold a well-planned, FUN party with lots of people eating and talking and laughing and gettin' their boogie on. So yeah - you've got the next couple of years to prepare yourself for the big bash, kids. ;-)
