Many of you CWRU folks went through the same scare I did on Friday. I came home around 5:30 from work, flipped on the computer, and logged on to CWRU's website as usual, when I saw the news about the PBL incident. I ran to the TV and switched on CNN and Fox - both had the pictures of the "aluminum foil" building I knew so well. I couldn't believe it. My first thought was of all the people I knew that worked in the building. My second thought was that it couldn't be happening. And then I saw people I knew being interviewed and I saw all of the campus I knew and loved... and then I knew it really was happening.

It's terrible that the publicity came about in this way. Those of you who know me well know that I've never been a fan of the media and the sensationalism tactics they use. (And no, I'm not mad because they called CWRU "Case University".) Why does something have to be bad to be newsworthy? Why couldn't CWRU get the publicity for all the good things that happen?

Anyhow, regardless of how it came up in the news - I am so thankful that so many folks were able to get out of the building alive. I'm thankful for the leadership that our school has; even as we complain about administrative duties that aren't properly taken care of, in times of crisis, these folks really pull through. And for the family of Norman Wallace - you are in my prayers.
